Itbwas natural respiratory pause, not holding your breath but firing in the natural pause between exhale and inhale before your body demands the next breath. That window is several seconds when relaxed. Under stress it shrinks. Train your breathing before you need to manage it under pressure.

The natural respiratory pause clicked for me at six hundred yards. Before that, I was fighting my own breathing and now it’s automatic, I just wait for that moment.

That’s when it stops being technique and just becomes timing you don’t have to think about.

That natural pause before shooting long range is everything. I used to hold my breath until I was shaking. I exhale now, wait for things to settle then squeeze during that quiet moment. Once I stopped fighting my own breath, my groups tightened by about half an MOA.

Another thing that helps, at least when I was shooting 1,000 yds, was paying attention to my heart beat. I could see the cross hairs moving with each beat of my heart.
